Zlatibor Mountain

Zlatibor, mountain of exquisite beauty, pleasant climate, spacious lawns, lush pastures, dotted with mountain pine trees for which it was named, is located at the Western Serbia. The most visited Serbian mountain with a long tradition offers a lot of different kind of amenities in which tourist can enjoy. It is also known as an air spa, which miraculous climate is favorable for the treatment of bronchial asthma and other allergic diseases, thyroid gland, heart disease and anemia. From Zlatibor you can choose some of interesting excursions in beautiful nearby sites.

ONE DAY EXCURSIONS:

1. MOKRA GORA, SARGAN EIGHT AND KREMNA
After a half hour drive arrival on Mokra gora, where we will take a nostalgic 2.5 hours journey on 15 km route taken by the old steam engine Šargan Eight, crossing breathtaking scenery while traversing 10 bridges, 20 tunnels and across many viaducts. It is famous for its curves in the shape of the number 8 that made it possible to climb the steep slopes of the mountains Šargan and Mokra gora. During the ride, the train makes a few stops. One of which lasts 20 minutes to let you take some fabulous photos, enjoy the views or enjoy refreshments in the cafe of the tiny and charming railway station. Departure to the ethno-village of Mećavnik, which was created by well-known movie director Emir Kusturica. It consists of wooden houses, precisely log huts, which preserved the authentic of this part of Serbia. Mećavnik has also a church, restaurant, souvenir shop, gallery, cinema Underground, national restaurant, weave workshop, and many other things that makes your stay unforgettable. Streets in this town are named after famous persons from culture, science, sport, such as the main street of Ivo Andrić, street of Ernest Ce Gevara, Diego Maradona, Felini, Bergman. Lunch in ethno restaurant on Mećavnik. Visit to Kremna, small village between two the most beautiful Serbia Mountains Tara and Zlatibor, and visit to the Tarabici Prophecies’ memorial house.


2. MONASTERY MILESEVA AND CANYON UVAC
Visit to Special Reserve of Nature Canyon Uvac with walking tour and boat ride (catamaran) to Ledena (Ice) cave, during which you will have opportunity to see Griffon Vulture that is rare bird species in Serbia and it is under protection of the country. On the way you can spend certain time on viewpoints and enjoy on the view of surrounding nature and river. Visit to Monastery Mileseva. Monastery was founded by King Vladislav, between 1234 and 1236. The church has frescoes by the Most skilful artist of that time, including one of the most famous in Serbia culture, the „White Angel“, which depicts an angel on Christ’s grave. Lunch in monastery. Departure to Kamena gora, where we will visit famous Svetibor (pine tree), over 400 years old pine tree, which is symbol of this mountain.

 

3. STOPIĆA CAVE AND SIROGOJNO
Stopića cave is located on Zlatibor. Above the cave is Užice-Sirogojno road. Through Stopića cave runs Trnavski stream. The cave has impressive entrance hole - 35 meters wide and 18 meters high. There are 2 attractions in the cave: 9,44 high waterfall and and the most striking feature, a series of sinter pools which are among the largest and deepest (more than 7 metres) of any found in the caves of Serbia. The pools flood periodically and some of them have become lakes. Visit to Sirogojno, Open Air museum, whic reflects traditional life in a Serbian village.

 

4. ZLAKUSA, POTPEĆKA CAVE AND UŽICE
Visit to ethno village Zlakusa, known for its production of ceramic. Bove all, Zlakusa offers the creation of ceramic pots and artistic ceramics in the ancient way, and their baking in the open air. International fine art colony of ceramics is held every year during the August. Lodging, food and work are carried out in the households of Zlakusa village, which are still practicing this kind of craft. Lunch in ethno house, typical village house, where guests will taste the most delicious Serbian cuisine. Tour continues to Potpecka cave in which Tito used to reside. It is located near Užice in the village of Potpeće. The cave is the origin of two springs that put together 2 km long river Petnica. Cave opening is a sort of nature miracle. It is 50 m high, 12 m width and is one of the largest cave entrances on Balkan. Sightseeing of Užice town and visit to hydro power plant on Djetinje river, built as second of that kind in the world, just 5 years after Nijagara.
