Royal wine tour through Serbia - 9 days / 8 nights

Day 1 Belgrade (D) (cca 30km)
Arrival to Belgrade. Accommodation in a hotel. Sightseeing tour of the city - visit to the fortress of Kalemegdan - primary bulit by Celts in the III century, Republica Square, Knez Mihailova Street - main pedestrian zone, Terazije, Parliament and St. Sava church. Dinner. Overnight.

 

Day 2. BELGRADE – VIMINACIUM – GOLUBAC – NATIONAL PARK DJERDAP – LEPENSKI VIR – DONJI MILANOVAC (B,L,D) (cca 240km)
Breakfast. Departure and visit to Viminacium – the roman town and fortress. Departure to Golubac and visit to Golubac fortress, from the XIV century. Visit to National Park “Djerdap”, the greatest natural and archaeological museum in Europe. Visit to numerous cultural and historical sights – Lepenski vir a unique prehistoric discovery, brought to light about twenty years ago, that presents the first track of civilisation on this area. Lunch. Departure to Donji Milanovac. Accommodation in a hotel. Free time. Dinner. Overnight.

 

Day 3. DONJI MILANOVAC – KLADOVO – NEGOTIN – RAJAC – BOLJEVAC (B,L,D) (cca km)
Breakfast. Departure to Kladovo famous for cultural and historical sights. Visit to Diana fortification, built in period of Trajan imperator. Departure to Negotin, to center of the lower Timok valley. Lunch. Short sightseeing – new church, stone gunpowder depot, the old church...Negotin`s environs are best known for numerous vineyards and exquisite wines that were even exported to France in the late XIX century. Almost all of the villages have their own wine cellars called „pivnice“, grouped in separate formations of picturesque stone hamlets. Visit to Rajac pimnice, that presents the complex of 270 wine cellars, located around the central fountain, built from mid 18-th to early 20th century. The cellars are partially dug into the ground, while there are rooms on the upper floor designed to accommodate vintners and harvesters. Wine tasting of the exquisite wines in this great preserved area. Departure to Gamzigrad, where stands the remains of a late antique palace Felix Romuliana. The Roman emperor Gai Valerie Maximilian, known as Galerie, named the palace after his mother. This palace, with a facade built of brick, green sandstone and limestone is one of the grandiose achievment of Roman architecture. Departure to Boljevac. Accommodation in a hotel. Dinner. Overnight.

 

Day 4. BOLJEVAC - KRUSEVAC – MONASTERY LJUBOSTINJA - VRNJACKA SPA (B,L,D) (cca 160km)
Breakfast. Departure to Krusevac. Visit to Lazarica church, an endowment of Prince Lazar. Lunch. Visit to monastery Ljubostinja, the foundation of Princess Milica and Prince Lazar. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Holy Virgin and belongs to the Morava School. Arrival to Vrnjacka spa. Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.

 

Day 5. VRNJACKA SPA – ALEKSANDROVAC – VRNJACKA SPA (B,L,D) (cca 80km)
Breakfast. Departure to Aleksandrovac. Short sightseeing in Aleksandrovac, the center of the famous Zupa, and one of the Serbian „wine capitals“. Grapes and wine are the central part of the life of this town and this area. In the wineyards around Aleksandrovac, stand scattered 24 seasonal settlements, whose preserved traditional architecture makes them a worthwhile sight. Wine tasting of the most quality wines of the best wine regions in Serbia. The oldest native Serbian grape varieties – Tamjanika and Prokupac are being grown here. Prokupac, also known as rskavac, is a thousand – year – old cultivar, while Tamjanika, a muscatel originating from France, has been grown here for over 500 years. Lunch. Free time. Return to Vrnjacka spa. Dinner. Overnight.

 

Day 6. VRNJACKA SPA – MONASTERY ZICA - MAGLIC - MONASTERY STUDENICA – VRNJACKA SPA (B,L,D) (cca 120km)
Breakfast. Visit to the monastery Zica, foundation of the Serbian King Stefan Nemanjic, the First-Crowned. Presents the first seat of the Serbian Archbishopic. Departure to medieval fortress of Maglic in the Ibar gorge, that presents the monuments of the medieval Serbian military architecture. Departure to monastery Studenica, dedicated to the Presentation of the Holy Virgin, presents the mother-church of all Serbian temples. Lunch in the monastery. Return to Vrnjacka spa. Free time. Dinner. Overnight.

 

Day 7. VRNJACKA SPA – TOPOLA – OPLENAC – ORASAC - BELGRADE (B,L,D) (cca 200km)
Breakfast. Departure to historical town - Topola and Oplenac, picturesque landscapes with endless clearings, valleys in the heart of Serbia which used to be holiday resorts and the place where the Serbian kings of the Karadjordjevic Dynasty were being buried (uncommonly parks and rich vineyards are situated in Topola town, and on Oplenac – Karadjordjevici mausoleum). Visit to the Foundation of King Petar I, which includes the Sveti Djordje church, the mausoleum of the Karadjordjevic dynasty, Petar`s House, gallery exhibiting personal belongings of kings Petar and Aleksandar, Karadjordje`s Town and the Viticultural House which contains a gallery. Departure to Oplenac, a true region of wine, where people have grown grapevine on the hilly slopes as far back as they can remember. Favorable climate, configuration of soil and other factors, provided excellent conditions for growing Prokupac and Vranac, the autochthonous varietes and Smederevka variety. Wine tasting the best wines of this area – Sauvignon, Trijumf, Italian Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon... Lunch in a rural household in authentic local ambient with beautiful view on this region of Serbia called Shumadija. Departure to Belgrade. Accommodation. Dinner. Overnight.
